Alright, gather 'round, because I'm about to drop some knowledge that'll make your jaw hit the floor faster than a faulty elevator.
We're talking about places so astonishing, so utterly defiant, that if they weren't historical fact, you'd swear I was spinning a tall tale over a campfire. Most folks think they know American history. They've heard about the big cities, the epic battles, maybe a few famous marches. But I'm here to tell you about towns built by Black Americans, for Black Americans, governed by Black mayors and policed by Black marshals, carved out of the prairie of what is now Oklahoma. If you've never heard of them, you're in good company. Mention them outside the region and people blink at you like you've just suggested unicorns run the post office.
This book is not just for reading. It's for doing. You are now a reporter for The Tulsa Star, Greenwood's fearless newspaper. Your job: chase down the story, collect the evidence, and help rebuild a street that the world tried to forget.
